Hi, I have a dilemma! I have a 90g tall (48") tank currently running only 2 250w metal halides, which are no good. So instead of replacing these expensive and very hot bulbs, I would like to switch over to T5 H.O.'s. I have someone interested in buying the halide setup for $150, which seems fair, but I need to be able to get the new light setup for that price, preferrably DIY. Before I give him a definite answer (He wants them today before he goes back home to Florida (I'm in Illinois)), I want to know if it is possible to make my new light setup for $150 (w/o bulbs is o.k.). I plan on growing sps, so heres my question: How many 36" bulbs should I allow for, and how much is the ballast(s) and sockets going to cost? Please help!!! A.S.A.P.

You will not be able to find a T5 retro kit to light your tank for that price. A good retro kit will cost double that if not more. IMO you will need about 400 - 450 watts to keep the corals you stated. Min a 4 bulb VHO or a 6 bulb would be better.
