The tubes (with threads) that get connected to a 1" bulkead & that can run into the sump, can they be obtained from Home Depot, the LFS? Or is this a waste of time & I should just order them from one of the online vendors?

You should be able to find appropriate fittings at HD or Lowes to plumb the drain line from your bulkhead to your sump.

For most bulkheads you do not attach the pvc using the threads, the threads are there only for the locking nut of the bulkhead. You would buy regular 1" pvc and then use pvc primer and glue to attach it to the inside of the bulkhead.

Unless they are threaded bulkheads...

Correct ^ I have threaded bulkheads on the back of my New 50 gallon cube and i was able to get a 90 degree PVC fitting that threads right on and is slip on other side. Works great!

The outside threads are for tightening the bulkhead to it's hole/tank. NO plumbing goes on the outside of the bulk. The inside of the bulk is where your plumbing goes.
