Need some opinions.

I don't know if this is the right area to post this, but i am hoping some people could give me their input.

I am just wondering if I can take my old live sand, and transfer it into my new freshwater african cichlid tank.

I would of course rinse it and since there is nothing in the tank yet let it run and do multiple water changes before i would add anything. I am just wondering if the sand will ever be clean enough to transfer.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

That is exactly what I did. I just rinsed the sand out extremely well. I put a gallon or so of sand in a 5 gallon pail at a time and blasted it with tap water, keeping the sand stirred by hand. Let the sand settle for a few seconds and dump the water. Repeat a LOT. Rinse until the water comes out as clear as possible. Time consuming to say the least, but it looks real nice when the cichlids start digging into it.

I did the same thing when I broke down my 210g reef tank. One quick rinse and it was good to go.
