The press releases and the reports on some other website said the Illumilux would be dimmable with any of the controllers that do 0-10v control.(including the Apex) Then when I got it I was told they will be dimmable... eventually when they release another part and I put out more money for it. Now I'm starting to hear they will eventually be dimmable... with the Vertex controller. I own an Apex and I like my Apex and wanted to supplement my T5s with dimmable LEDs.

The strip came with a meanwell driver and I am really curious if the part I've been waiting for them to come out with is the dimmable meanwell drivers. If this thing was a little less expensive I'd just try to purchase one and see if I could get it to work, but I'd rather not experiment having no clue what I'm doing. I'm really hoping someone out there knows a little more and can help.

In case it helps the Mean Well it came with is:
Order number GS40A24-P1J
Model number GS40A24

Hidden under some insulating rubber there is two cords going into the fixture, but it looks as if the plug could have 4 wires going into...if that makes sense. I'll try to upload a picture. It just makes me wonder if there is more to the dimming then just plugging in a dimmable meanwell.

Found this as well in another forum:

The units are dimable out of the box as long as you have a 1-10 Volt diming module. Controllers like the Neptune Apex have a feature that will allow you to do this. It will also be compatible with the Cerebra controller once it's launched. Additionally they will be coming out with an interface for it in a few months if you don't own or plan to purchase an aquarium controller. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Perhaps the sales rep selling Vertex stuff was misinformed or perhaps all I need is the right cord which I can get somewhere else and they just want me to wait and buy it from them.

Anyone?

Does it look like this?

The cord going to the fixture may be slightly different due to some modification by the light manufacturer but if this is in fact the driver then what you have is a 40 watt 24 volt driver that does not appear to be dimmable.

Now thats not to say that they arent designing some type of regulator that goes between the driver and the fixture that may be dimmable.

You might see if you can get Kress or Fishman65 or someone in the DIY forum to chime in. Post the driver specs there in the DIY LED thread and see what they say.
