I have a Blue Jaw Trigger fish that I have had for about 6 months. He is very nervous. He hides if anyone comes close. He does come out when I feed the tank but if I move too fast he runs back to his man cave.
All this I am OK with however lately he has been injuring himself which has m concerned. At night when all the lights are out in the house and just the moon lights are on within the tank he swims as fast as he can against the glass, always the same side of the tank, eastern facing side of the tank almost 1/2 the night. He eventually goes to sleep in his cave but I have been up to check on him at 2,3,4 in the morning he is there trying to swim back to the ocean. He paces up and down the same side with fin on full into the glass.
This has caused a wearing down of his lower lip. He is not bleeding or anything but it is now a very dark spot.
I swear I would provide pictures but if I even try to come near with a camera he hides.
At first I thought it was kinda funny but now I am getting concerned as I said. I don’t want him to live in a stressful environment.
I though last night that maybe some how he is seeing some sort of reflection so I got some black construction paper and taped it to this side of the tank. Interesting enough (now this was just the first night so can’t say for certain that this was just a coincidence) he did not assault this side of the tank. He did continue to do his thing though but now in a different area, the rear of the tank on the side where I have a HOB CPR Fuge.
it would not be easy to put black paper where the fuge is (that thing is heavy when full and I don’t fit too well behind the tank)
Outside of his nervous behavior when people are around and the night time desire to find the ocean, he seems fine. I can sit still and watch him move about the tank especially around dinner time. He has a little friend in the man cave (blood shrimp) that he loves having around, he is not aggressive towards any other fish.
Tank Parameters are all in spec
He is a juvi only like ~3 inches, fat
Please any thought or ideas?
