I had a bad experience with crabs and corals in the past,( they were blue leg)was thinking about trying some in my new tank. Is there any reef safe crabs out there. I have most soft corals in my tank with alot of snails.
Most of my snails are small and I know crabs will steal shells.

Thanks

Never had an issue with blue leg hermits. Had issues with red leg, just coz they bigger and bump stuff around, but never eat coral issues. Only coral vs crab issues i've had is true mithrax/sharp claw type crabs eating out the mouth of recently fed coral.

I've heard hermies take out snails...but i've had both for a fair while and never seen it. JME.

My reef is mostly softies, and I've never had an issue with blue or red legs messing with my corals. Now, messing with my snails... that's another story...

I might try some of the reds then this time. Those blue leg crabs just seemed like they had to start a fight with everything close to them..lol

You will be fine with blue or red hermit crabs. Also try a emerald crab. They will do just fine in a reef tank.

I'm still gonna try the scarlet crabs. I guess I could always take them out.

I've never had an issues, and mostly softies in my tanks. Never even had a problem with them killing snails. If you feed them, they won't have to find their own food (your corals or snails).
