View Full Version : Cracked Back of Aquarium: Fix it or Chuck it?

Of course I did. I over-tightened 2 bulkheads on the back of my BioCube 14 Gallon, custom-modified tank. Voila! A hairline crack appeared near the two bulkhead holes. The cracks are so small, that only tiny beads of water pass through the back wall of the tank. Yet...I don't want a cracked tank.

I've read that silicone repairs work. I've read that silicone+glass-backing adhered to the crack is the way to go. I've read: "who wants to live in that fear of it getting worse later?" I've read that one can simply remove the back panel and install another piece of glass as a new back panel.

Question: what to do? Fix it or chuck it? If I chuck it, where can I buy a replacement BioCube 14--just the empty tank alone--as a replacement part? I won't need the whole pricey all-in-one gadgetry that comes with it because, I will only break it down and remodify it, drilling holes in the back of the tank again and installing a glass-overflow box to the back of the tank.

Please give me your take. Thanks.
