I am curious, it seems that if you are doing a tank with spf's, it seems like most people do spf only tanks? why is that?

spS? You can do mixed if you choose to. People that do sps only.. Only like/want sps. Thats how my tank is, only sps. I dont care for softie corals or lps.

I keep both, but many soft corals do better in slightly dirty water, while most SPS corals require pristine water conditions.

oh, ok, thanks, seems like all the tanks I see are only sps, not mixed

it can be difficult to keep both, only because they require slightly different water conditions...for instance, an sps dominant tank often has water that is too clean for lps and they just melt away...but don't be afraid to try both, lps can survive in clean really clean water. Sps won't make it in water that is not pristine so keep good water! I hope this isn't misleading, because all corals require good water quality
