Which camera would be the better buy when both are same price?

Thanks

Best Buy has the d 5000 on sale for a little less than what you can get a d 3100 for and I was just wondering if this would be a good deal. I checked the reviews on both and I can't make a decision. The sale goes off tonight and I feel pressured to pull the trigger on the 5000. Help me from making a big mistake.

TIA

Read the sticky about DSLRs up top. Honestly, if it's a good deal, jump on it. No offense intended but either camera is probably better than you are. ;)

I'm sure both cameras are better than I am since I'm pretty new to any kind of photography. Thanks for being honest and the reply.

I was really just saying buy what you want and don't stress.

I have a d3000 the 3100 is an upgraded version of the same thing more or less. I love the 3000, got a couple quirks such as no live view.

Whichever is cheaper would be my advice. Your pic quality will be determined by your lens much more than by the camera body. Good luck!

Yea, I'm probably gonna wait, don't need to do an impulse buy and regret it later. Thanks for the reply.

Do you own either of these cameras?

I think I will keep shopping for a while anyway. Thanks for the reply.

I currently have a D70 and 5100. I sold the D3100 for the 5100. Hopefully will be getting a D7000 soon. And honestly my D70 does pretty much everything I need even though it's a few years old. I want the 7000 for the much faster shutter, dual card slot, and crazy iso...... the 1080p helps too :D

I think you will enjoy the newer technology of the 3100.

This is all just my opinion though.

IMO, D3100. Slightly bigger viewfinder, newer sensor, and full-time video autofocus (if that matters to you)

Although if you're going to spend that kind of money for a body, I would just get a D90. It's better than the D3100 and it has an AF motor.
