I have two tanks, one is a 72 gal bowfront that is over-run with majanos. The second is a 300gal mixed reef that I re-setup after buying the complete contents of someone shutting down. I noticed a few majanos popping up in the 300gal tank after the water had cleared and I was determined to kill them all. Each day I spotted about 2-10, which I killed by injecting with 6M hydrochloric acid, trying to pull the complete majano off the rock on the needle as the acid led him to detach. For about 10 days I would see fewer and fewer, now for 10 days I haven't seen a single one, so I think they have gone extinct in my 300 gal. To minimize the effects of the acid on my tank, if possible or easy I would remove the live rock while injecting the majano, this way the acid would be neutralized by the Ca in the live rock as seen by the bubbling. If not possible I would try to inject only as much as necessary to get it to detach onto the needle. So the bottom line is it looks like it is possible to drive them to extinction if one is keeps at it. They key was killing every single one every day. Since they love the light, they can't hide forever! Next up the 72 gal - this will be a big task, but I think it is possible. . .
