Hello everyone, I'll soon be drilling my DT if the sides arnt tempered. I know there's a sticker on bottom that says tempered glass do not drill. I also know lots of times this only applies to the bottom.

I thought there was a test to tell by putting a labtop (turned on) inside tank and look through polerized lens ( i would be using sunglasses if that works) and the screen would turn black... Im not sure if you look at it straight on or at an angle.

Is this how the test is done, or do i have some thing backwards.:fun5:

I obviously want to be sure before i drill so i can sell the tank if its tempered and get a different one.

Thank you everyone.

Put the laptop in the tank. Then using the glasses, rotate the glasses and the screen should black out. If it goes all crazy, you have tempered glass.

Also, do the test on the laptop outside of the tank to make sure that there isn't something weird about your laptop screen.

Ok i was thinking it would go black if it was tempered. will it go black on the outside of tank test too, or is the regular glass causing this blackness.

What size/brand tank is it? 55Gs are the most likely to be tempered on all 5 sides, some 75Gs.

Ps. i heard that about 55g and drilled one that will be my QT tank, i was just waiting for it to break but i lucked out and it wasnt tempered. Dont want to test my luck on the DT tho.

The anchor I think is Perfecto. I doubt the sides are tempered, but yes, good to make sure.

Thanks scott.

Will the test turn the screen black outside of tank, or does the untempered glass cause this?
