Is there any way around drilling holes in your tank to set up a sump?

You can use an Overflow box

the previous tank i had wasnt reef ready so i used an overflowbox as stated above, they work well and save you the stress from drilling glass...

yep, overflow. you will get a bunch of people on here say "drill it's not hard" or "sell it and go buy one already drilled"...at least thats what I got even though that was not in the question. Life reef seems to have the best record across the board as far as overflows go. Most recommended one I have had. I will post the website below.

I have an overflow on my tank and have never had a problem. you just have to make sure you have plenty of room in your sump for return if you have power failure. also, make more than one siphon hole on your return for redundancy

"they work well and save you the stress from drilling glass... "

This might be true to start with but having an overflow box will add stress of water on the floor for the life of the tank. Not worth it. Drilling is so easy. I just drilled 2 holes in each of my 90g tanks and 1 in my sump and 1 in my fuge. I take that back... my 5 year old drilled the hole in my fuge. I got mine from Glass Holes and ordered 2 extra bulk heads.

I just set up my tank with an overflow box. I looked at the concept and figured I could just make one on my own. Thank god I did not. Once you get it set up and you realize the importance of it you will be glad you bought one that was made correctly. I can see what 0 tds is saying because all the flow comes from the top of he tank. I would think that power heads and clean up crews could help, at the same time I haven't been doing this very long so take it for what its worth. I had fun setting my over flow box up tho cause I never worked with PVC pipe before and it was way easier then what I thought it would be.

Agree that if you do go this route lifereef would be best choice.

You can make something yourself out of pvc pipe. I think it was easier to drill the glass.
