I have had a 92 gallon corner tank up and running for 7 months now with now problems. I have decided to up size to a 300 gallon. I just sold my 92 gallon and I will be moving my puffer, yellow tang, and hermit crab to a 55 gallon until my 300 is up and ready. Now for filtration I will have a HOB Marineland penguin 350 and also 150...should I throw in live sand and live rock? I'm not sure how long they will be in there....maybe a month at most.

Yes on the rock, no on the sand.

I see where thegrun is coming from; his worry is that die-off from the sand might cause an ammonia spike. I've moved sand, rock, fish, and coral to temp tanks without problems before. I do it fairly quickly and use tank water. It takes a few days to clear but there are no other problems.

Safe way would be to store sand in separate containers and move it to new tank a week or so before startup of the new system.

Ok, thanks a lot for the help guys. I'll just throw some LR in there and call it a day.
