I purchased from dry rock from a fellow reefer a while back, and he threw this piece in for free. I am not sure if it is calcium carbonate, it appears to be more dense and smoother than the rest of the rock. As long as it's not leeching copper into my system, is it safe to use? I bleached all of my rock and soaked in vinegar as well. Would just love to use this piece at the top of a tower of rock!

Looks ok to me. Drop some pure vinegar on it and see if it fizzes. If so, chances are it is calcium carbonate. Even if it's not, I wouldn't see anything wrong with it aside from it possibly not being very porous, which isn't innately an issue, especially when you aren't using only this rock.

Looks a lot like "Texas Holey Rock," which is predominately used in African Cichlid tanks and is usually calcium carbonate or limestone based. The vinegar test will be the definitive answer, but I'd say it's most likely safe. That stuff is expensive!!

Fish loves swimming in and out of holes, that rock structure is perfect for them.
