ok, thnx, well i wanna start from the beginning so yall will uunderstand the start up i already have and where it came from.mywife and i always did freshwater but wanted to get a little more challenged and start salt water, anyhow lol,we talked to the LfS to get started but now dont trust them,so what we have is a 30g long they gave me live sand and said my aquarium would be ready in 4 days and we can start aquiring fish and so forth so we first got live rock and a snail and an emerald crab that was hid in the rock lol then a couple days later we purchased a clown fish and an anemone,2 days later 1 damsel died then the day after the other damsel died and the day after my clown fish died,,yea weird,,my salenity was good and also my nitrates and nitrites, but that was all he said i need ed to check, where did we go wrong?and then mybuddy said i should go through a diotone bloom first im confused and dont know where we went wrong. ill start with this first then ill have to lead into filtration and lighting next lol but that will probably be tomorrow lol cant get al my answers in one night lol

Well, the fish probably died because you put them into the tank before it was cycled. Ammonia built up and burned up their gills. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the anemone will probably die soon too and it will lead to a horrendous stench. You should probably take that guy back to the store and try to get some credit on it. If you get the nem out, then the crab and the tunicates will probably be with you for a long time. Start testing your ammonia and when that goes away and you test zero ammonia and nitrite for a while, you can add a (one) fish. After another few weeks another. After about six or eight months or so the nem can come back if things are going stable. I hate when fish stores do this, and you should probably check around for a better one if you can. They are more interested in your money than anything else, and the average joe who doesn't ever come around here and check might go through four of those anemones before he gets one to live. By then things are crazy in his tank and they get to sell him all sorts of things to control the algae.

The BEST thing you can do for your sanity and your tank, is to go read all of the posts at the top of the new to the hobby section that say "Sticky". Look for some posts by someone called Sk8r and click the blue number under the cat. That's the ultimate secret stash of info for your first tank. During the time it takes you to sort through that, you tank will cycle with the crab and the tunicates and a world of other creatures that you haven't discovered yet but are in there. And by the time you get done, you will have a pretty good plan on what to do.

Here's a link to Sk8r's blogs. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/blog.php?u=116634 If there was a liscense to keep salt water tanks, this would be the material for the written test.

When did ammonia test zero? It may have been that the cycle hadn't started yet at all. Either way it got overloaded.
