I asked this in the Clownfish and Anemone forum but no one has responded.
I have a pair of Maroon clownfish currently in a QT. The female is about 4 inches and the male is about 2 inches. Can I put them in a 150g tank that currently has a small lionfish? He is about the same size as the male maroon and I know he will get quite large. When the lion is full grown can he potentially eat the male? If so I will put them in one of my other tanks. Thanks everyone.

What type of lion?
If the clown ends up being smaller then the mouth of the lion, then yes there is the potential for the clown to be eaten.

And if the lion tries and can't swallow the clown, you lose both.

It's a volitan lionfish. I know they get pretty big but I don't know how big male maroons get.

Assuming you end up with a mated pair of maroons, the male will stay tiny.
This picture is older then I care to admit, but you can see how small the male was in relationship to the female,

Thanks Todd, I got them this weekend and they are a mated pair. The previous person had them for 1 year and got rid of them because the female killed 3 of his fish.

I've had a lion eat a coral cat once that was so big I thought the lion would die.
It didn't swim for 2 days just digesting that fish.
Their mouth is much bigger than it looks, and they eat anything that fits.

Back in the day I had a volitan lion that could eat anything 2/3rds of it's own body mass.
At 3" long (not counting fins and tail) he ate a 2" Blue Damsel... you could see the blue in his belly for 4 days

Thanks everyone, it is settled then. I will not put them in the tank with him. I will either put them in their own tank or get rid of the Lion.

Also looking at your avatar just a reminder you won't want to mix those maroons w/ any other clowns, clowns are very territorial, and maroons are about top of the list on that.
