I have an phosban 500 TLF reactor can I mix carbon and GFO in the same reactor?

both medias need different flow, you "can" do it as long as there is no tumbling of media but I would recommend not mixing them

Also just to add,
GFO, under normal circumstances, usually lasts longer then carbon. I run GFO about 1.5x 2x longer then my Carbon. However, if you mix you then have to change both at the same time.

Do I really need a reactor for carbon or can I use the bag my phosban came in? My P04 was at 2.0 and with the reactor they fell to .5 in 24hrs in the bag P04 never changed. Thanks for your help it's tough being new to the hobby.

I run both in my reactor. I have GFO on bottom and seperated with the sponge and my carbon on top. I use a BRS reactor and when I change my carbon I open the top and scoop out carbon and replace. It's not to bad and I can run my gfo longer than the carbon and they stay seperated....
