My tank is 8g 12x12x12 cube and I want to upgrade my lighting. I'm looking for something simple because I'm not too knowledgeable with aquarium lighting, but I want it to be strong enough to support anything down the road. I was looking into the PAR38 bulbs, but I'm not really sure because I don't want to spend a lot of money on lighting that doesn't look nice on my tank. Any help would be great.

Buy a bigger tank and go cheap on the lighting? Eight gallons is a small tank. Not sure how to illuminate that. NO, PC, T5, MH, LED. They all work.

Good luck.

I think 1 Par38 bulb would be good for that tank. If you ever upgrade your tank, you are going to have to upgrade the lighting anyway. The nice thing about the PAR38 bulb is it will last a very long time and won't use nearly as much energy as any of your other options.

+1 for Par 38. Would go with a 20K unless you can supplement a 14K with a 453nm stunner strip or something similar. The bulb will need to be set above the water by about 12".

My main issue with the PAR38 is not being able to decide which color would look best on my tank because all i've seen is pictures and pictures don't help much as far as lighting goes... I also won't be upgrading for awhile yet because I'm moving in the next year or so, so I'm just going to be sticking with my 8g for now :) thanks for the replies

Do you mean this one http://www.nanotuners.com/product_info.php?cPath=74&products_id=698 ? would the 40 degree lens be enough to cover my tank with light?
