I got my first live stock in my tank (140g )yesterday, a beautiful cleaner shrimp and some snails. I drip acclimated them and they all seem to be fine this morning.

later this morning i checked my SG and it was 1.029! so i panicked and added about 5-6 litres (under 2 gallons of RO) and the SG went to 1.025. Now my shrimp has been hiding for a few hours and im so scared that i have shocked him! he is moving as i can see him, but he is not moving around the tank.

Is he going to be alright

i bet he will be but 2 gallons of water made the salinity jump that much in a 140 gallon tank? i would check ur salinity again just to make sure.

i just checked it again, its 1.027. I must have tested it too soon before the water had mixed well enough. I feel a bit better, but i wish he would move somewhere else! my sand sifting snail is ok so thats a good sign

he should be good, give him some time to acclimate(remember you just got him) and get the salinity down more slowly though i would say around 1.023 to 1.025. and cleaner shrimp hide alot anyway i never see my except at feeding time. i have seen cleaner shrimp survive much crazyer swings than that.

no problem i bet it will be even less of a swing in salinity when you check in a bit too.

All shrimp can be reclusive by nature. It's probably normal that your shrimp is hiding. Lower the salinity to 1.025 Specific Gravity gradually over a a day or so. The goal is to Not make drastic changes and shock your system. It can take a while if you have a high amount of total water. So go slow and monitor your tank for changes.
