One of my firefish disappeared a week ago. I have a 29 gallon tank drilled with the glass-holes nano con dientes overflow to a 29 gallon fuge, lots of LR. Firefish was doing great, swimming with the other firefish, eating well, then gone. No trace, no body parts, nothing. Nothing on floor. I have my tank in an enclosure so it didn't seem like it could have jumped anywhere.

Then this morning, good news while cleaning the skimmer:thumbsup: I found the firefish in the fuge, alive an well. Hard as heck to catch as there's LR in the fuge. Anyhow, I got 'em, but now i have to figure how to cover up the overflow. Any suggestions of what type of mesh to use, or where to get it ? I have some extra window screening lying around, but I suspect that will rust, I don't know ? Any thoughts ?

Thanks !

BulkReefSupply sells a clear netting that is aquarium safe. It comes in 1/4" and 1/2".

Bird netting will also work.

All three are good advice. Bulk reef supply has a good video that should help.

What type of gutter guard, if it's metal then I would get it off! If it's plastic then it shouldn't be a problem..

thanks for all the comments.
how do you attach it ? rubber band ?

i have some extra plastic egg crate stuff that i used to raise my skimmer off the bottom of the refugium. the holes between the slats in it are maybe 1/2 inch ? is that too big to use ?

Fish have been known to jump through eggcrate. Especially thin fish, like the firefish.

if you're looking to cover the glass-holes overflow, a piece of acrylic will do the trick. I just cut a piece to lay on top.

if you want to cover the whole tank as well. I agree with others with the BRS clear mesh screening. I used it on mine and I love it! the 1/4" holes won't even let the smallest firefish through

Gotcha, look like some pretty good stuff for an overflow application..
