Im looking at building a prop tank and was going to have a tang in it. The tank will be 6 or 8 feet long and 18 inches wide. I was wondering how tall would it need to be for tangs? I was thinking 12 inches but thats a lil short. so maybe 16? Thanks!

Length is more important than height... but if you have room for the 16 then go for it.

Alright sounds good! thanks! oh and are there some tangs I should stay away from? that have taller fins? and will feel cramped? im guessing a sailfin obviously wouldnt feel comfortable? haha

I agree that length is more important for tangs than height but don’t forget the size of an adult tang. I doubt a 12” tall tank would be very comfortable for any adult tang. I would consider the 16” to be the absolute minimum.

As stated, depend on the species of tang. You have too look at their adult size. For an adult Naso, 16" wouldn't cut it. I'm thinking more like 24" for most tangs. They like swimming room, both lenght as well as height.

My DT is 36" tall and my tangs used every bit of that space.
