View Full Version : Will Peppermint Shrimp Hurt RBTA

So I started feeding my RBTA silverside fish today. It's a small RBTA and a I found a small silverside. Within minutes the three shrimp were after it and were pretty persistent. I kept them away with a baster but I am wondering if they can actually hurt the RBTA. At one point before I started shooing them away, they had snatched the whole fish out from the RBTA. I thought about giving them a silverside of their own but it won't last as long as it's taking this RBTA to consume the fish.

they will snatch food but they will not actually harm the anemone.

Ok good, they are almost bigger than the anemone at this point and they ganged up on the thing. I threw in another silverside and they got busy with that. It was fun to watch. Meanwhile we bred at least one shrimp, saw it swimming around. I hope they don't take over! When the fish are added I imagine they will eat the baby shrimp.

when the fish are added.. I imagine the peppermints won't be so daring to try to take food out of the BTA :)
I also have a BTA and Peppermints (and a PLTA) the peppermints don't dare come out of hiding during feeding time!! :lmao: and there is nothing in my tank that would kill them!!!
if it continues.. you can always make a "barrier" for the anemone while it eats
take an empty milk jug (rinse well!!) and cut it up to be able to put over anemone.. or get a tank divider and make a cylinder for it :D
Good Luck!!

Ah yes that makes sense. And after I threw them a piece of fish they left the RBTA completely alone. We have a screen too that we may employ if necessary but I think pre-feeding the shrimp did the trick. It sounds like adding fish will solve the problem when that time comes.

I feed my GBTA raw table shrimp... but before doing so, i always cut a little chunk off, put it on a skewer and set it in front of my cleaner shrimp... one, its kinds fun to hand feed him, two, if I don't he is all up in my GBTA's stealing the food... this has worked out pretty well.... my wrasse will even try to steal from the GBTA sometimes
