The color in the new photo looks like it was under some creative lighting or it was photoshopped... naw, no colral vendor would do that, would they? Even in the original pic the coral looks stressed and receding. The vendor never should have sold it. Shipping and acclimation would only make matter worse for the coral.

ya I know,
it is a question of what I ask the online vender for, I agreed to let it settle, but I am guessing this is a waste of time given that it is receding when I got i

It was listed as a "red acan" and I expected a red lord,

how long ago did you receive this piece? it's an acan lordhowensis, a little stressed but definitely not a goner yet. don't blast it with alot of light yet, you might get a pleasant surprise, imo they are pretty hardy & i have several colonies that started with 2 or 3 polyps alive & they multiply quickly.

There are more species of Acanthastrea out there than just lordhowensis. Often times "acan" is a widely used descriptive term that does not indicate the true genus. Can you post some more images to help us identify you coral please? Don't worry about saturating the colors, just get things in focus and that should help.

it still looks the same as it did in the original post

I was expecting a healthy lord colony and got this.

the second picture was the one from the vender, it was the only blurry picture on the website after I went back to look. ( I think this is the one klepto said to get in focus?)
( I got the piece about 4 days ago and it looks the same)

it is in low light

thanks everyone for your help so far

It looks likean acan lorhowensis to me. Very sick though. Connective tissue is absent.

+1 on acan's, low light and spot feed'em. they'll grow back. I've bought them in worse shape than that :/

i feel stupid. :hmm3: what you have is an Acanthastrea echinata does it look ANY better in your system? I have saved a few local sps corals so if your params are good i think it should recover nicely

you ordered an acan lord that is supposed to be healthy. I honestly dont think its a lord or (obviously) that it is healthy. are you planning on keeping it? because i think it may have a chance. when i had acans, they would extend their feeding tentacles at lights out. yours is probably much to stressed, but it is a good sign if you see it "reaching" for food.

you know what i changed my mind. i think they are lords. :spin2: if you fill in the receded tissue and the polyps puffed out it looks more like lords. they are very similar. im sorry for sounding so stupid

well I the owender advertized 5 inch red gonis, I placed the other for this reason. The remailning corals were purchased to fill the order.

the 5 inch gonis came in golf ball size. Another acan that I purchased was much smalller and he agreed was not the piece I order. a 3rd acan was what I ordered. The red one is receded and not the acan I wanted.

The acan in question was labeled "red acan" and I beleive the picture as blurry as it is leads me to beleive I was getting a lord, needless to say I am pretty disapointed in the whole order.

I am a bit ****ed as I place the order for the 5 inch red gonis and since I didnt get this it defeats the purpose of the order.

I agreed to see if the corals "extend further". I have been in the hobby 23 years, and knew they would not but I was being polite to the online vender.

to be honest I would rather just send the whole order back

*********

enough of my rant lol,
what would you expect after seeing thier picture (second) and the describtion "red acan"

thanks

Send it all back. That "red" description is a joke. Ask him to send you the photoshop parameters he used, that photo is way overcooked!

it was half covered with the evil brown jelly, I hope it doesnt infect my other lps

I sent the owner a long letter today requesting resolution of the various items in question

no response as of yet

I will post up a pic in a bit
