The Refractometer, most definitely. That price is a little suspicious, though. Normally they are $40 and up.

the hydrometer is seriously overpriced and junky, petco sells the same one for 3.19
i bought the sera marin hydrometer from fosters and smith, and i couldnt be more pleased, it reads all the way from 1.000 to 1.040, is easy to use, doesnt need special calibrating fluid and can never go bad!!! i used to use a POS swingarm hydrometer and never again, also compared to the sera marin the swing arm was reading almost 3 points higher when the water really was 3 points lower :(

Refractometer. Also, pick up some calibration solution so you can calibrate to 1.026

lol. Refractometer. Not even close. Can't believe there's even a topic on this. But welcome to RC. :)

I used a hydrometer back in the 80s when I had a FO tank, along with a plenum, crushed coral and a wet/dry filter

Go with the refrato... even a cheap one is better than the floater
