I'm looking for a how to video/forum on how to make a stand. Doesn't gotta be fancy just durable and not look like complete crud in my parents house. It will be supporting a 40 gallon breeder aquarium. 36"L18"D16"H

Also if anyone could suggust a product on what to coat the inside of the stand, to help prevent rotting and such from the constant wetness, and moisture.

you can stain the stand or use killz.

I primed with Kilz (2 coats) then used Epoxy paint - you can pick it up at the big box stores .... The stuff they use to paint garage floors

Get a pocket hole jig. They are a great way to hide screws and keep things looking clean

So the depth of a standard 40 gallon is 18 inches. Do you guys think I should make it exactly 18 inches wide? and have the pipe work and stuff going off the back of the stand, or have it, wider then 18 inches, and have it go through the top?

If its not a drilled bottom then i wouldn't go through the stand. kind of a wast to build extra just to drill holes through. You might want to give it like 1/4in lip around the edge. Be sure to measure the tank before you build. The tanks measurements might just be the glass and not include the plastic trim that it actually sits on.
