I see the word " sebae " used in the name of several fish species, but I can't find it in any dict. Latin or English. Can anyone clue the clueless what this refers to or means? Thanks.:hmm2:

And to add to the confusion, "sebae" is a common name for both H. Crispa and H. Malu (( anemones )).

You have been given several "definitions" for it -- it is a common term that can refer to several different anemones and a fish or two.

"Its specific name sebae is a Latinized genitive form of Dutch zoologist, Albertus Seba's last name"
~~Found that in the Wikipedia article for Python Sebae (African Rock Python)

Disc1. Thanks! that was what I was looking for. Don't know why Todd got short with me, I was just trying to understand what it meant when it was attached to a species name.

Wasn't getting short with you -- you stated that you were "still looking for a definition" -- with an exclamation point -- so I repeated what I knew. If anything your "come on, someone must know" was a bit short.

Yeah, half the point of latin in taxonomy is/should be to add something descriptive to the name by definition, but everyone wanting to be famous had to go and put their name on things which leaves a bunch of names relatively useless from a taxonomy standpoint. They might as well have been named Genusname 1 2 3...
