How do i catch a large lionsfish? I can't use a net...... can I? I thought about a bucket and the net to lure him in the bucket. Any thoughts he is about 7inches long so...
Thanks

Definately the bucket. Worked very well for me. Went right in the bucket to avoid the net!

I've kept fairly large lions before and the bucket is the safest and best way. I submerged the bucket to lie on the substrate. Also had a piece of nylon rope attatched to the handle in order to be able to pull the bucket out without having to grab the handle myself (just being overly cautious in case the lion attempts to exit the bucket while your hand is right there!). Use the net to gently herd the fish into the pail and you're set.

Don't get stung... really painful if you are NOT "allergic" to the poison... really really bad if you are
I got stung in the tip of my middle finger. It felt like the flesh was being burned off up to my elbow. After, the flesh at the tip of my finger was kind of like frostbite... dead and took a long time to grow back
If you are "allergic" to the sting you can suffer heart attack and/or neural shutdown
Unless you live someplace where they are native your local ER/poision center is going to be clueless as to how to help you

I always wanted a lionfish but was worried about being stung. always wondered the effects of being stung by them. but the fish are so small, how in the world can they do so much damage.

I agree w Oregon
It is a very painful toxin and could cause death to those allergic folks.
My sting came from a baby so size does not matter here.
I did not have any necrosis but my pinky got hit and the burn he stated was the same
I did however had residual pain to touch for months after
all from a tiny poke that let one drop if blood escape. I licked the wound and in seconds the burn started.
I tried to use a turnicute but it only prolonged the pain and trapped the poison in the end of my finger. It almost popped from swelling.
And this is from a guy that only gets a zit from Man O War stings.
So Just imagine

If you do get stung hold the sting in hot water for 20-30min. It helps stop the venom from spreading.

Actually, the hot water will increase circulation in the area. It is, however, the correct thing to do. What the hot water does (as close to boiling as you can stand) is neutralize the toxin. It is protein based - the heat will cook it.

Man, you need a rob allen! :D (Love my RA)
I have used nets...but entanglement is a risk you run. bucket with some holes in it so that you dont have to pull as much water up.

Caught him with a bucket really easy thanks for the help.
I loved him but there is a small risk. Well worth it in my opinion.

I have been thinking to get a dwarf fuzzy myself... now as for how their toxin compares to the larger lions. I have no idea... but I suspect with lions 'size doesn't matter'.
