My tank is just a couple of weeks old, and its my first saltwater...
I bought an AquaC Remora protein skimmer, 2 maxi-jet 400 power heads and a maxi-jet 1200 for the skimmer. I have a 36 gallon, and after calculating the GPH,

2 maxi-jet 400= aprox 400 GPH (propellors)

1 maxi-jet 1200= aprox 225 GPH (water pump)

800 + 225= 1025
1025/36 = 28 turnovers

IS THIS TOO MUCH??

I need to know soon cause my little Chromis looks like he has a tough time swimming and tomorrow im planning on getting 2 Clowns

thanks for any help

Has the tank cycled? Is the chromis suffering ammonia exposure? I've got tons of flow and 4 green chromis that seem unaffected by it. I'm worried that you're moving too fast.

yeah the chromis should be swimming pretty strong

Well the cycle is fully complete, no ammonia, no nitrites, 10ppm nitrates cause i dont have a sump

I do have a lid on the tank, but i dont understand how that comes into play

I think they are just adjusting to their new environment. When did you get them?

Chromis tend to be jumpers.

I have 80x turnover in a 220. I see fish swimming in front of a 7500 GPH MP60 occasionally.

If a fish cannot swim fine with 28x turnover, he is sick. The ocean has far higher current rates than our tanks.

Well he seems to be doing good today, but is constantly swimming against the current, not really around the tank.

do you think he just needs to get used to it? i dont see any signs of sickness, normal gills, no spots, eating normally. should i get my clowns today?

Give it time and he'll get used to it's surroundings. I would wait around 1-2 weeks before getting anything new.

Chromis like to swim in the current and its normal for them to swiim infront of the powerheads and pick particals from the water

Oh, yeah.. your moving too fast.

The words " I need to know soon" should never be said about adding livestock.

Its a very slow process

how old is the tank and how old is the fish to the tank?
