Been having a spawning event about once a month. 1000's X 1-2mm tadpoles. Put a few under a microscope, and looked like shrimp larvae, but that didn't make sence. Didn't look like crab larvae.
Just discovered whats up. Hermit crab larvae! Was doing a night feed, torch beamed across a flow of bubbles, huh? Concentrated flow of bubbles coming from this hermit crab, wha? OH...lots of little tadpoles.
Anyone else seen this happen/similar?

I have had witnessed snails and worms spawn but never hermits. Very cool.

Not sure what it is, but good sign that you have an established fauna in the system. This is a nice and nutrient rich feast for the other creatures in the tank. :fun4:

Yeah i was very surprised. These mini tadpoles were a mystery. I have 4 shrimp, but all diff. species.
Sorry i can't take micro. pics. Observation = dead ringer for shrimp larvae, spikey tail, big eyes, legs waving like gills.
No doubt now, watched it happen. Apparently hermit crab larvae look more similar to shrimp larvae than true crab.
Yup ;) good food for the tank. Within 24hrs, 1000 = 0.
P.S. ohh and it always happens just after lights off...
