not at all.. although Button Polyps can take over a tank if not kept under control!! they are, by some (including myself! cause I have them) considered a nusiance coral..
the cup coral is a filter feeder.. harmless :)

so should i go ahead and try to get rid of the ones i have now before they spread too much?

I agree with the polyp ID. I'm going to say the ones on the bottom left are a type of ball anemone though.

+1 button polyps and an orange ball anemone. a pseudocornayactis or something similarly spelled. :)

I haven't ever heard of the ball anemones called cup coral. I've always called the Pagoda Cup coral "cup coral." I've heard Pagoda cup, sun coral, and some chalices called cup coral though. Common names are way too confusing.

 its sooo much fun though!!!!

I just did a quick search.. for 2 yrs now.. I have though the cup coral and ball anemone were the same, and were just different subspecies.. as I've have many different ones in my tank..
well.. I now (think) I know the difference between the two :D
cup coral actually have a skeletal base and are harmless and ball anemones don't and can sting...
so much fun!! :bounce3:
