Hey guys,

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help you may bestow upon me. Great forum!

I have- 29g Aquarium, a protein skimmer, and a filter system that sits on top of the aquarium. I ALSO HAVE 2ea T5 blue lights, and 2ea T8 natural lights

So today is day one. MY LFS has the following ready for me to pick up and get started.
2 bags of sand, 25 gal of premixed saltwater, 10# of cured live rock (i am sure it is cured), 3 small saltwater fish (lil ones), 10 hermit crabs, 2 snails, 4 astrea snails, & 1 turbo snail.

My intentions are to get home put rocks where i want them, fill with sand, add water, trun on pump & filter & skimmer, and then an hour or so later add the fish and other crabs etc...

Will i be ok with the cycling procedure? Seems like everything i have read on your forum says absolutly no fish till it cycles.

Any suggestions?

don't add any fish/inverts yet... thats cruel to the fish.
a lot of people use a raw shrimp to cycle a tank.
just get everything up and running for now, you don't want to add fish for 6-8 weeks.

things move very slow in this hobby so don't rush anything, if you have questions ask on the threads first, you can learn and save money by the mistakes we have already made.

Happy Reefing and welcome to RC

Thanks guys. The LFS said teh snails/crabs were essential to the cycling... The FISH I just wanted to have something in the tank. So we can just leave the fish there, but the Snails & Crabs too?? Go ahead and laugh now, but what the heck do the Snails & turbo snails & crabs do? What exactly are there purpose, because i would never put that in a tank unless teh LFS advised me to do so??

Yup, leave the snails/crabs at the store. They will be essential when your cycle is complete, but for now, you would just be slowly torturing them.

You will learn VERY quickly here at RC that you can't always take what LFS says to heart :sad2: They are there to make money most of the time and just aren't all that educated in SW aquariums...
a cycle will more than likely just slowly torture and kill them!!
Please take some time and read atleast the first link I posted for you.. It is Dedicated to Beginners :)
