I don't really know how to describe them to well. They look filamentous and clear. Do not recede when touched or disturbed. About 50 or so on 60 lbs of live rock.

90g glass aquarium 48 x 18 x 24
Quad power compact light 4 x 54 watt 6700k daylight 8 blue leds
Supplement over my coral with 20 watt actinic lighting normal output. I only have 30 or so mushrooms polyps on a chunk of live rock no other coral.
3x koralia powerheads 2x 750 gph 1x 1000 gph
200 watt heater
Coralife super skimmer 125 hob application for now
60 lbs live rock
2 clowns
1 fairy wrasse
1 bicolor blennie
1 yellowtail damsel
3 peppermint shrimp
3 turbo snails
5 small nassarius snails
5 black and white legged hermits... help with species appreciated.

I recently used chemiclean to clear out red slime outbreak. Since then I have upgraded my lighting and did a 30% water change. My skimmer stopped putting out excess micro bubbles last night 36 hrs after water change.

Temp: 78
Nitrate: 0ppm
Nitrite: 5ppm
Ammonia: 0
PH: 8.3
Salinity: 1.0245 raising slowly to 1.026 from 1.023

Thanks
Nick

Just sponges I think.

I tried to add pics but I don't know how to incorporate them with my phone. Pics of others AND links to pics where I could see some would be helpful. What does growing sponges mean, how are they caused, and are they harmful, helpful or helpless? If I don't like them how do I remove them?

How long are the clear filaments? How are they attached to the rock? Do they come out holes in rock or do they have a base on the rock?

They aren't very long... ranging from 1/4" to 1/2" and are growing off the rock. They do not recede or move. I touched them and they just stay there.

Upload your pics from your phone to the photobucket app for easy sharing. Once you take the pic, select the "share" option for the pic and then select "photobucket" and it will be added to the uplosd queue. Once loaded to photobucket, tap/hold on the pic until the pic options display. Select "copy", then, in your post, tap/hold for the "paste" option.

I'll go with sponges too. I have a few like that in my tank.
Harmless filter feeders.

So let's see if this works... look carefully on top of the rock. I tried to take a pic at an angle so it would be easier to differentiate the little "sticks".

@sugarmagnolia
And I tried your way but my phone won't copy pics... just text.

Pic is too small.

Do you perhaps have pics of yours so I can rule them in or out?

Let me resize one real quick that I took one the other day, but yours look different even from a distance than what I was picturing in my head (and is in my tank), but it's not close enough for me to tell more about what it might be.

Edit: Well, you can't even see it at all in any of the pics I took of that particular zoa frag LOL. Mine was a very clear, thin tube type sponge. Yours look like something entirely different than what I had. Is there any way you can load the pic larger so it can be zoomed in on?

Another edit: Check here under foramiferans and further down under hydroids & see if anything looks familiar. http://www.chucksaddiction.com/hitchodds.html

Sorry but I can't get larger pics... or I at least don't know how. The best way to describe it would be clear grass. Its in patches. I surf chucks addiction often and can never find exactly what I'm looking at. If I push it it springs back up. I have not seen it move, recede, or anything defining.

No they dont look like those. they are real short and firm.

They are worms. They live in the rock pores and are a good thing. If things are going strong then they will "live ling and prosper".

They are tasty with tomatoe sauce.
