I like the ninja star ones for asthetics, but those usually end up with crab legs sticking out of them more so than any other kind of cheaper snail . . . at least in my tank.

are any of them good at eating brown algae off the glass?I don't understand what everyone's talking about. There is no way this is a solution. You have to scrape the glass yourself. These snails do not understand about clearing an area, they just make trails.

Astrea snails are slow movers but I noticed they clean better than the nerite snails in my tank.

Red banded trochus never take a break and mine reproduce well in tank so I should never have to buy anymore. Good deal I think.

+1 while snails will help, you will still have to take a mag float to your glass every day.

I agree as well. Astreas really get everything when they move along. they really destroyed my hair algae.

I don't know about you, but I bought my snails to help clean the rocks. It's nice that they help with the glass too. ;)

I've had really good luck with astrea, trochus, turbo, nerite, cerith & nassarius. Collonistas are small, but they definitely get an A for effort as well.

Love my stomatella snails too! I also prefer Nerite snails over turbos. Nerites don't get as big as turbos and don't knock frags over as easily.

Nerites, stomatellas, nassarius and ceriths here. Though I have turbos they're just big bulldozers. My hermits are not kind to the nerites though, even with extra shells around. I rescued too many astreas to bother with them anymore. :)

I still scrape the glass.

all snails are good, but if someone out there does not have to clean their glass at all, please let us know. & i don't mean you just don't clean it, i mean theres no need to because you have found the secret.

I only bought about 4-5 nassarius snails and my rock came with some stomatellas and limpets. (100g tank) You don't really need a lot algea eaters unless you're planning on having a lot of algae.

margarita snails have been doin work in my tank, i have about 12 of them in my 29g. They keep the rocks clean and do "spotty" work on the glass. However the magfloat is the main glass cleaner, i'd recommend one of those to help keep it clean regularly.

magfloats are great but the side and back panels are hard to hit because they usually have powerheads on them.
