I've got 2 250 watt 20k plusrites on my 75 gallon. I paid less than $40 including shipping from 1000 bulbs. I'm happy with them, but I am ready to spend some real dollars on some quality lighting. LED's or quality MH, I went the cheap route to get started. Considering the money spent on what's in my tank right now, I think it's foolish to save money on lighting. I am worried now that I will harm things by replacing the cheapo bulbs with high quality. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Plusrite is garbage. Search is your friend.

You get what you pay for.

Not at all! They were cheap, $12 bucks each. My progress at this time is amazing me everyday! I suppose everything could crash at any moment, but I am actually trying to take things very slowly. We just added our first sps corals and that is why I'm doubting my lighting. I've got 2 250 watt MH 12" above a 75g, PLENTY of light even with the cheapo bulbs. I don't want to shock the system too bad by using quality bulbs.

They are decent. I have 250 watt 20k. Color is nice but par is kinda low. Ive had them for 5 months now. Im in the process of changing them now.

I wonder what makes the bulbs have such a great price difference between each other.

Plusrite is garbage.

What kind of problems did you have? I've been using their 400w and 250w 20k bulbs for years with no problems at all.

I have used alot of different bulbs over the years including their 250 watt 10 k's. My latest bulbs are their 250 watt 20 k's and I like em. I use mine over a mixed sps and chalice tank.

I found the color was way off, ive tried them a few times 20k 250w.
Since then ive changed out to xm and the difference is obvious.

The precision in which it is engineered.

I went from using phoenix 250w 14k's to the plusrite 20k's, not one problem at all and I like the color. I guess it could depend on ballast used as well, but I have never had an issue with them. I also have used 20k reeflux and xm 20k but the reeflux changed spectrum's on me in as little as 4 months and it wasn't just one bulb that did this, the XM's were ok but something about the color wasn't very pleasing to me. I see no reason not to use these at all or if your not willing to try them out full time they are cheap enough to keep a couple around for spares.

On a side note, many of these manufacturer's that are popular in the aquarium trade DO NOT manufacture there own bulbs. I am not saying all of them but many of the bulbs are made by a general manufacturer and then re branded or the individual components are made by another manufacturer and put together in a plant using components from several sources. If you think about it this way. How lucrative can a light bulb business be if the only thing they make is metal halide light bulbs for the aquarium trade in very very select spectrum's? so more than likely they come from another company that specializes in making bulbs of all sizes and spectrum's. In that case how do you know that plusrite bulbs don't come from the same general manufacturer as other popular brands?

I run 3 250 watt 20k plusrite bulbs and am not too excited about them. I have 2 seperate ballasts, 1 runs 2 bulbs on the outsides and the other runs the center bulb. My bulbs are an obvious different color. I understand having a difference between the bulbs on different ballasts but there is a huge difference from one outside one to the other. i don't understand how this is.

I'm going to try Hamilton 14k bulbs. Plusrite bulbs are very good for sorties and most lps. My sps didn't like them. After time they must have lost some power cause the sps were starting to brown out. I switched back to my old corallife bulbs and the color came right back within two weeks.
