Pool Filter Sand OK?

Hello everybody, new guy here starting up a 120 gallon tank. My daughter and I are extremely excited!! I have been trying to source supplies and came across a guy that is selling some pool filter sand that has been in his established tank for some time now (2 years if I remember correctly). Is pool filter sand a suitable substrate? What are the pros and cons to it? Is it "coral compatible" if I were to decide going down that road later on?

I don't know if it would be or not. If it is a silica sand it will leach into the water. Fosters and Smith has good prices on sand and free shipping if you get a couple of bags.

Ive used pool filter sand on a FW tank with no issues. Not sure if Id do it on a reef tank though.
