I was looking for a Fuzzy, and came home with this little guy. Two inches tops.
I just put him in so I didn't get very good pictures, so I'll update later.

Haha, all that's in there now is him, a Porcupine Puffer (http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/iTeeeeeeeeeeeeen/DSC00987.jpg), and a Blue Throat Trigger (http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/iTeeeeeeeeeeeeen/DSC00999.jpg).

Nice little lion, but a poor choice considering existing tankmates.

sorry i missed that post, but i dont see a single problem with the inhabitants. i have heard of triggers picking on lions but i have kept them together with zero problems. how large is the tank?

I have to agree, I think the Lion is by far one of the best looking fish I've had one before, the only reason I got I sold him back to the LFS is because the other fish became the MENU!.....

Beautiful fish though.

He's downright adorable! Volitans are amazing, you'll love him.

Just keep in mind that puffers and triggers have been known to eat lionfish fins. I know theres quite a few people who keep lions with puffers and triggers with no probs. Just keep an eye on them, cause lionfish rarely fight back.

Be prepared to separate him and the trigger. There's a whole sticky just on how bad it usually is to have them as tankmates. Puffers are very individual and that could easily not be a problem, or not.

I hardly think the Blue Throat will bother him, but only time will tell.

I have a 6" Proc Puffer and would like to get a lion to go with it, but I am concerned he will nip at the fins of the lion. I have a heniochus butterfly too and the puffer nips off the top fin any time it gets a little long.

Puffer also took a chunk out of the tail of a 6" red breasted wrasse while the wrasse slept. I think it was that the wrasse slept with his nose up in the corner of the tank. I put some moon lights there and the wrasse found a better spot so the tail does not stick out for the puffer.

So far he has zero interest in frozen foods, but tonight he ate at least one ghost shrimp, with plenty more in the tank for him.

I agree. His small size makes the lion even more vulnerable. The puffer & trigger are established and will probably not be able to resist the new, flowing fins.

Hardly, I picked up the trigger with him and the puffer has only been there since Tuesday, so not even a week.

For feed training I used the bait and switch method on the 4 lions I've had in the past. Put in a small live fish, after he eats it skip a small silver side through the water right at the lions face as fast as you can. It should trigger a auto attack before he notices its dead. Do this for the next few feedings and then just skip in a silver side. After a couple of months he will not care what it is and will be eating from your hand.

As for the tank mates I would watch for the trigger going after his side fins, cause if he nips the lion once it will go into definsive mode and one fish if not both will die. If the lion feels a threat he will go head down with his spines too the threat. So that will be a early warrning if you see the lion resonding to the 2 other fish.

Hope it works out, you will love the lion.

No frozen today either, but he did look mildly interested in it, so maybe. New pictures! :)

Dood...go take a look at your lion's caudal fin. One of your other fish is nipping it badly. I went back and compared it to your original pix, and I know you've got this fish with a couple of sketchy tankmates. My first guess is the puffer.

Yup.. that fin does appear to have been readjusted with a little too much off the top

Just an update, I got this little guy on PE Mysis right now. Once he realized everyone else was eating, he decided to try it himself. Now I really know what the 'belly buldge' is that I kept reading about. I think he's grown a little, but not a lot. I haven't seen any aggression between him in the puffer or the trigger and his back fin seems to have started regrowing, so all is well right now. Here's the latest picture I have, he was curious about who was coming to visit. xD

He is so adorable.
Keep a close eye on him, make sure no one starts chewing on his fins again. If they do, you will have to separate them.
It's good he's eating frozen. He's gonna be a beauty when he gets some size on him.

He was surprisingly easy to get to start eating frozen, I thought it would take longer. :celeb3:

You've pretty much described P. volitans and D. brachypterus.

Glad the fish is eating and has healed-up.

I wonder if that was caught in the Caribbean?
