First of all... AWESOME FORUM!! I've been a member for awhile but didn't need to post anything because every question I had was already answered. That being said this question probably has been answered too :p

Is this normal?

I haven't done anything to it yet just opened my new apex today and found this crusty stuff on the end of the probe. :twitch: Is this the 4 pH storage solution just drying up?

Common, that is just the storage solution. It looks like there is still enough solution to have kept the tip from drying out. It should work fine, just be sure to calibrate it.

I have to get the solution mine didn't come with any. Hoping I can find some local.

The probes never come with calibration fluid for future reference. You should be calibrating the proves a lot more frequently then replacing them so if you can't find them locally you may want to stock up to save your self time, hassle, and shipping.

I learned the hard way on that. But I do like the apex. Just bought a 1/4 hp chiller. I really hate this money pit

You tried fans before the chiller right? If an LFS sold you a chiller with out recommending trying a fan first consider shopping elsewhere. Some stores love to be the money pit.

I found a deal theres a guy in the local reef club who sold me his chiller and uv sterilizer for 200. 1/4 hp chiller and 15 watt aqua violate sterilizer.

Getting a bit off topic, but I think the original question was answered anyways.

How many watts is the chiller? How hot was your tank getting? You could bring you tank down 3-4*F depending on the sizes and dimentions of the tank and room temp with a fan running on a couple of watts. If you saved $200 on the chiller, but it costs you $25 a month on your electric bill....

UV sterilizer is a good size for a 5gallon pond in your yard, but likely worthless on your aquarium.

Just my two cents on it.

I had a fan on it for a while and it only dropped 2 degrees and water lost was crazy. My room stays at 76-78 degrees on hot days. I just set my tank back up never had temp problems till I ran a mag 9.

Mag 9 are pretty solid great portable pumps. I own a lot of them. That being said I ran one on my main tank for a short time and the controller kept sending me e-mails and cutting the lights off. Hot hot hot.
Take a look at reeflopumps. Not internal, external, but hard to beat them. Low wattage american made, and dead silent. Again just my two cents.

Could use cheap food and a cheap skimmer and pay for it with massive water changes or spend the money wisely and not have to do as much work. (meant to be an analogy, might look into replacing that pump and then reselling the chiller)

Replace that Mag 9 with an Eheim 1262 if you can. While the Mag line of pumps are undeniably solid workhorses, they do run hot.

The Eheim 1262 puts out 665gph at 4 fett and uses 80 watts.
The Reeflo snapper = 1900gph at 4 feet and uses 105 watts.

Tiny bit more watts, quiter, less heat, and more then tripple the flow. If your overflow can't handle it pump some into your sump as well and you won't have any settleing in your sump.
If your not comfortable plumbing and using PVC the reeflo may not be for you, other wise it's the obvious choice in my opinion.
