So I'm just about finished with my stand and after taking my time building it I have started to like the natural color of the wood I used. It is a light wood. Similar to pine, but a hard blonde wood. The moulding and trim work I chose matches very well and I originally had planned to go with a mohagony stain, now I'm second guessing that idea.

I was hoping some of you could share pics of your DIY stands that are natural wood or just have a clear coat instead of stain.

No body has a natural colored stand... Everyone paints and stains there stands?

Post some raw wood stand pics that are sealed with clear coat or similar method

I haven't built my stand yet, waiting for all my parts to come in and still have to decide on pumps and stuff, then i'll post pics of my build. I was gonna try using Black Walnut board to skin it but the cost was out of this world, think I'm gonna go with birch..I like the grain pattern

Though not always the case, most have to stain and paint because they aren't using finish grade materials. This too is mahogany. I opted for a coat of timber oil on that stand, but there is nothing like the durability of spar varnish; its old skool water and wooden boat protection.

Thanks to everyone for posting your pics. Let's keep it going.

Das75 - the wood I'm using looks very similar to the lighter colored pieces on the pillar in your pic.

Widmer - I like what you did with that old buffet cabinet. I wish I would have thought of that for my 55. It is actaully on a similar cabinet and I did get some flex in the center. I reinforced it with 1"x3" along the back and underneath for additional legs. Your way is so much better.

rough cut wood + no finish what so ever . these are old maybe ill go take a few more with a light on in there ..... :)

Well I only work with natural woods. I hate stain... However, my wife wanted black and at $100 a BD FT for ebony, that was not going to happen so I ebonized maple... I does not count yet but here it is... I am adding the clear coat now...All the other wood in that picture is natural color...

Here's a few of mine. I built it from scratch and included a third door at one end just in case I ever have to remove my sump. These pics were taken very shortly after I set-up the tank

Thank you , your work is very impressive also ! I used sepele mahogany, that's what our supplier called it anyway. I'll build a canopy for it someday, if I ever decide which light fixture I'm going to stay with.

Not too bad, $5.00 a board ft. / $75.00 for a sheet of 3/4in. plywood.
About $200.00 in lumber to build this stand.

The entire outside is red oak with red oak panels. The polyurethane darkened the plywood more than the solid wood. Unintentional but the result works for me.
