Hello all. I have a 48"x20"x22 wide rimless tank Im trying to get started. I plan this to be an SPS dominated mix reef set up. Im torn between AquaIllumination, DIY led or maybe ATI t5. I like the look of the shimmer of LED's, but I want to make sure I can grow SPS. Thanks.

everyone has there own opinion but leds have been proven to grow sps but i would either do led or mh as t5 it would be kinda iffy i wouldnt feel comfortable with just t5 on a 20 inch deep tank but AI has some of the nicest led setups from what ive heard just make sure you get the right mixture in color temperature to recreate the par from the sun that sps needs

I have a standard sized 90 gallon tank. I have a Tek T5HO fixture with 8 bulbs. There's about 4" of space between the fixture and the top of the tank. All of my SPS are about 1/2 way to the top of the tank on top of my rocks. Seems to be good lighting as my acros seem to be happy and are growing like weeks

I wonder if 2 aqua illumination mounted sideways work?

I just got 2 AI units and I mounted them sideways. I have good coverage and the color is amazing. I don't have any experience with SPS yet but I'm currently looking for some.

Did you use the blue or white? How high do you mount the lights and do you use full power?

any of those solutions should be able to grow SPS without much concern. The aquaillumination is probably the sleekest of any of the choices, but at a cost.

They are mounted 8" above the water. I started with white 35%, blue 40% and royal blue at 40%. Plan on increasing 5% per week until....I'm not sure. At 8" above the water I have nice spread.
