Alright so I have a 34 gallon Red Sea Max tank and I LOVE it! Ive had this tank for about 6 months now. I have a Sailfin Tang, and a Heniochus Butterfly. I do have some questions about this tank still. I have some algae in my tank that i cant seem to get rid of, ive researched it and im pretty sure its Cyano. Ive kept the lights off for a few days, fed less, and added flow. Any suggestions on that? Also, (im not sure what their called) but the 2 little things that blow out water and make the water in the tank move around, when i turn them both on they blow out ALOT of bubbles, like so many that i cant even see through my tank. When i just turn one on then its fine. How can i fix this?

Greetings, and welcome to RC!

I'll start with the contentious, which is the fish. Both those fish get rather large (the sailfin over 14" as an adult), and it's the general consensus that they should be housed in tanks that suit their adult size. Even though they may be small now, most folks consider it being responsible ensuring they have proper space to thrive and develop. So if you've yet to do so, consider finding them more appropriately sized homes.

Second, regarding cyano, you sound like you're on the right track. Eliminating wastes is the solution to almost all nuisances issues like this, so keep doing what you're doing and even continue to find ways to back away from nutrient introduction (finding more suitable fish for a tank that size may help as well, as the two fish you have in the tank do require more food than say a pair of clowns or otherwise).

Third, I assume you're talking about the powerheads. I'm not familiar with the inner-working of that product, so hopefully someone with more experience can enlighten us on that, but it sounds as if you're getting air sucked into the input of the powerhead. Look for ways to eliminate that introduction of air and maybe you'll overcome that issue.

crvz hit the nail on the head. You could also try some clean up crew (sand sifting snails and crabs) they will help on the extra nutrients in your tank.

Agree with crvc regarding your two fish.Neither one is suitable for that size tank. I'd suggest returning both of them and selecting fish that are nano-friendly. Here's a good place to look for ideas - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15+2124

As far as the cyano goes, you'll want to increase flow and syphon off the cyano on a daily basis. Run some GFO (Phosban is one brand) and keep your water quality high.

Are your powerheads completely submerged? They should both be running consistantly rather than shutting them of/on.

Agree with all the above;

On the power heads, I'm picturing the kind people use on FW (air tubes attached) if this is the case remove the tubes.

And I agree with all of the above. Some great very knowledgeable contributors have added their comments which I endorse. Avoid problems. Much easier than trying to provide work arounds later.

Thank you all! I had no idea about the fish being to big for my tank...when i got them they looked small and looked like a good size for my tank! Thank you for all the answers! (:

Sounds like your powerheads are either too close or too much flow for your tank. To fix this either sperd them farther apart, or jest sell them and get smaller ones.
