After upgrading equipment and redoing plumbing, all I have in my sump are probes, heaters and my skimmer.

There is a nice 18" X 18" area where I would like to place an eggcrate rack to grow out frags. There is plenty of flow in there because I also keep a pump to keep detritus suspended.

My question is on lighting. The water depth is only 8" (and substract an inch for the height of the rack) and I was thinking of placing an 24" Ati Aquablue special on the rim of the tank (tank is 17" high") Do you think this will be sufficient lighting to grow out frags or should i do two tubes, an aquablue and blue+. I already have all the lighting equipment minus the bulbs.

anyone else using their sump to grow out frags?

Lighting really depends on the needs of your frags. Light appropriate to what you intend to raise.

It will be all sps.

Are there 18" T5 bulbs? this would be a perfect fit without overhang.

Actually, there are 18" t5 bulbs! I'll just cut down the reflector a bit.

So now the question is one or two bulbs?

Remember this is a small area and the frags are pretty much at the surface
