Hello everyone,
Just bought a used setup which consists of:
115g glass tank (48Lx18Dx31H) not drilled, but want to get it drilled
CPR sump w/ skimmer Model CY194
50g/hr powerhead
200g/hr powerhead
1200g/hr sump pump
and about 50-60lbs of once live rock that has been sitting in the garage for a few months.

My current saltwater setup is a holdover from my freshwater days:
55g acrylic
Rena XP3 cannister
~2inches of live sand
3 green chromis
scissortail goby
marine catfish
horseshoe crab

My questions are:
How do I setup up the larger tank for a smooth transition??
What do I need to do to turn the dead rock back into live rock??
What do I put into the sump since it came empty??

Any and all help is appreciated!

Your best bet is to set the tank up and have it cycled before transfering everything over. If you're going to use the rock that you have.in the 55 you'll be able to just transfer all that over right away for an instant cycle. You'll probably want more rock on there so if you use lace rock make sure it's cleaned first. As car as the sump, thats really up to you. you can make it a refugium and have.macro algae in it or you can just use it to house all your bulky equipment.

Thanks Sisterlimonpot! I plan to disassemble the 55 and put the 115 in the same location, can I recycle some/all the water? What type of macroalgae would you recommend for a refugium?

Yes on the water. It's not going to benefit in any way other than you don't have to make as much new. As far as macro algae I'm biased in saying that chaetomorpha is hands down the best especially for nutrient export.
