Does anyone use My Reef Creations protien skimmers?

What kind of powerheads are being used that I see in 99% of the pictures in a reef tank?

MRC skimmers are in use by many folks in my local reef club. They are a solid company who make high quality products. I don't think you can go wrong with them.

I'm not sure if any powerhead brand has 99% of the market. :)
Common ones you are seeing are likely Vortechs, Tunzes or Koralias.

Good, I think I am going to purchase the skimmer I was looking at. Thanks for answering my questions.

Top quality skimmers, but they need BIG pumps to run them. If you're willing to spend the electric they are fine. If you want to be more efficient and quieter, find a suitable pin wheel unit. If you have a really huge tank them the big MRCs will do the job for you.

The most common inexpensive powerhead is the maxijet. The expensive ones in the TOTM tanks are most likely Tunze which have been around for a long time. Or Vortech has been getting a lot of press the last few years.
