I have a SRO 2000 HOB skimmer with the bubble blaster pump. This skimmer really works good but ever since Ive had it, it would get louder and louder over the period of about 15 minutes and then all at once the noise stops. Within 10 minutes are so it starts getting louder and louder and then all of a sudden it stops. All along the skimmer working just fine.

Ive just been dealing with the noise up until now.

The new thing for this pump is to just shut off out of the blue. I wake up in the mornings and the pump woulod be off. i have to turn the power off going to it to let it reset and it turns back on,. 2 or 3 days later it would just up and stop. now these last 2 days it is doing it every few hours. gradually getting worse.

I measured the tempurature with a laser gun and the hottest point on the motor was 120 deg F immediately after it shut off. Then after resetting and restarting I check the temp and it actually dropped a few deg. It was around 116 at the same place where it was 120 earlier. which makes sense the water cooling it as it pumps.

I couldnt find a website or a contact for bubble blaster anywhere. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks a bunch for your thoughts in advance

Contact coralvue as its still under warranty. The original bubbleblasters have an issue with doing just what you describe. I had a bb2000 sieze up several times. Eventually not turning back on at all and tripping the GFCI. I took it apart to clean it for the third time and the magnet had swollen up and cracked.

Have you taken it apart yet? Perhaps it just needs a cleaning? Or the impeller is improperly seated?

Feel the pump while it has been running for a while, if it's hot then it is shutting itself off before it overheats. Mine was doing the same thing and Coralvue told me to clean the impeller once a month in vinegar solution. (calcium buildup was pretty bad due to the pump running hot) Well that was fine but it was still noisy and when it would shut off after 10 or 11 days after a thorough cleaning I contacted them again. They sent me a newer style pump, the impeller is white now and they don't fit the older style pumps.
The new pump is SO much quieter AND it is barely warm when I touch it. Also I am getting a lot more skimmate and the I don't have to re adjust the flow everytime I clean the cup, it seems to stay much more stable now. Coralvue has excellent service, sent me a pump in advance and simply requested I send the old back when I received the new one.

Ok great! Good to know. I will try to find a way to contact coralvue to see what can be done. I just ran the skimmer for a few hours last weekend in vinegar water and it's been making these noises since day 1. Hopefully I get the same good treatment. Thanks for the input!
