View Full Version : What is the QUIETEST External Pump?

And I mean QUIET. I have an Iwaki MD 40 RT, and in a word: "no way." I can do better, I'm sure of it. I was told that Blueline Velocity T4 was the way to go...but it's been discontinued by the manufacturer...so that leads me to ask again: what is the QUIETEST external pump? I want one, please!

Thanks.

I would try the replacement model, the Laing E10

Poseidon pumps are quiet but they will add some heat to your system.

Thanks, SJM and DZFish. I went with the Dart Reeflo 3600 gph. I'll report back as to how quiet it is. It has a wide reputation for being quiet.

Thanks.

Reeflo Blowhole pumps. Cannot hear them, dead silent. unless you ear is within 6 inches they are not audible. I’m just hoping they have a good life span, a few years before that will be determined.

Where did you get them from ? ?? Intersting am in the same boat of finding a dead silent pump and the velocity does add heat. Does the reefflo adds any heat?

thanks

reeflopumps home page, they are looking for evaluators. If you do not like the pump, they return your money. The pumps added almost no heat, I cannot tell any difference in tank temp with 2 running. (their also pressure rated)

I also run a dart on the skimmer, I can hear it outside my stand. I cannot even hear the blowhole pumps with my head in the stand. I have to touch the pumps to make sure they are on.

Thank uo for your feed back. It realy is an intersting pump. Which model are you running and on which setting? Would be classified as dead silent even on the highst setting?

onse again thank you

NP, I want to give it some more time before I write up a full review for RC, but so far both the pumps and support from reeflo have been pretty great. I have 2 1100 pumps. I run both on low. One feeds my skimmer and reactor the other is my sump return.

It's not that the pumps makes more noise on high but the water flowing thru the system does. So yes they are still so queit I hear the water flowing thru the pipes. One medium I notice no differece from low, and only a slight ouptut increase.

Very interesting. Are these new?

They look new since reeflo is asking for testers. What I like is that they use 1" in/out. that dart massive intake always was a pain Power consumption is ok given they appear (could be wrong) pressure rated. Flow style pumps will/should give better power consumption. How does it compare to say a silence pump or the laguna maxflo? I've been told the motor block on the maxflo is the same as on my RD (totally silent but $$$ and not supported so well). Though I can't quite figure out which laguna matches up with which RD.

They are brand new, so thats a negative. Reeflo is standing behind them and will guarantee you like them or money back.

They are pressure rated.

I installed my new Dart 3600, and I love it. When I first turned it on, it was so quiet, I thought that it was not running. But it was. If you get up real close, you can hear a tiny whisper of a fan, which is completely undetectable when standing in front of the tank. That's it. No motor whine, at all. It's Q-U-I-E-T! It is so quiet, that I can enjoy the view of the tanks in stunned silence.

I love my new Dart as much as I hated the noise of my Iwaki MD-40 RT. I'm so glad I ditched that Iwaki. For those of you who praise Dart, you were right. Thanks.
