wanted to share this with everyone..... did alot of research and came across these things which made my life ALOT easier - plug and play!

Instead of splicing and dicing and worrying about electrical fires etc...

This allows you to plug fans directly into the wall outlet!

I used this to plug 2 fans into 1 power adapter
http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Molex-Power-Supply-Splitter/dp/B001PI9AAC/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_b

I used these fans.... LOVE THEM... silent! 69cfm @ 19 db
http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-120mm-Case-R4-C2R-20AC-GP/dp/B0026ZPFDE/ref=pd_cp_e_3

**** those fans came with a 3 to 4 pin adapter which i used with the above splitter... which is this if you buy and have different fans that don't come with the adapter

I run a chiller so im not using them to cool water.... just to get the heat out of hood ( mine is only 12 inches tall and packed with 2x250 halides and 2x 48" reefbrite led strips... and they are great. I suggest wrapping the connections in some electrical tape just to keep out salt creep or dust etc.

Just wanted to share my find and hopefully make some lives a little bit easier ;)

altogether i spent like $45

I had been looking for a D.I.Y cooling fan. This really helps, thanks for putting everything together.

The fans are horrible, I bought at least 10-15 of them about 6 months ago and all the bearings have seized up and rendered the fans useless

Were they drawing moist or dry air?

Good to finally see someone wanting to do fans right.

+1!!

As someone who also builds custom computers I'm surprised to hear about the bad experience with the cooler master fans. I've had great luck with them in computer applications

Well I cant imagine it doing great if there was a large amount of evaporation involved, which is implied by your need for 15 of them. water on fan= bad

Those are just the ones I bought because they seemed like high cfm (69) for low db (19)
Standing 1 foot in front of them i dont hear them and i am VERY picky

and at 10 bucks a piece... if they fail in 6-7 months ill just order a couple more. (no starbucks that week will offset LOL )

Can use whatever fan you choose.... the real info is that power adapter and the splitters, and the 3->4pin adapter...... fans are changeable to whatever you like....

I know... they've been around for a number of years and it's such a simple solution.

I just cringe when I see a "use a cell phone charger" post, there are two things that come to mind... "I'll bet this guys tank isn't plugged into a GFI" and "I hope you have good home owners insurance"

Just make sure you don't use too many fans with that adapter, 2 dc amp output max. I have 2 120x38mm panaflo fans with a similar powered adapter and it barely has enough to run them at 12v. I wont be able to add anymore on that adapter, ill have to go with something bigger.

What is the ideal ambient temp that one would want inside a wooden canopy?

What is the ideal ambient temp that one would want inside a wooden canopy?

depends on the water temp and how much you want to change it. If your water is 78F and you want it 78F than the ambient should be 78F.

that would be an ideal situation with lights that put out 0 heat. If you have 2 400 watt MH lights and a few t5's pumping heat out it would be nice if i could get some -20F air pumped in there, those lights heat up my tank like crazy.
