Found some snails the other day on the eastern shore of VA, they were in the sand. My just finished cycling tank has a huge algae bloom, so i brought a few with me and plunked em in the tank. They've done amazing work on the algae, now my bigger question is do i need to remove em before put in any livestock? are they going to harm my corals / fish? FWIW from the bit of looking around online they look like Ceriths. When i put em in the tank they started to go in the substrate but have been mowing down my algae and took all the growths off the glass, but arent very good at all at climbing and spend way more time on the rocks. Here are some pics:

Can obviously get more pics if needed.

Thanks!

They look like Nassarius snails a good sand bed scavenger.

It's hard to tell from the picture but hopefully they are nassarius and not whelks. Check out this link to compare. http://www.melevsreef.com/id/whats_a_whelk.html

The foot pad still looks more like a nassarius to me, but do keep an eye on them.

Ilyanassa obsoleta aka Nassarius obsoleta aka Mud Dog Snails.

I would suggest you remove them.
