I had a beautiful superman monti frag that was growing nicely and doing great for the last 6-7 months, beautiful colour. I have been battling nitrates and did a few large water changes. I noticed when I did my usual dose of alk that it turned to white clumps and dropped to the bottom of the sump, when I tested my alk it had dropped to 6.6 and calcium was over 500. I don't understand why because when I tested my nsw for the change it was alk 10, calcium 450. Anyway, my gorgeous superman has over the last 2 days turned completely white, I have brought the alk back up to 8. Is my coral dead or can I do anything?

Is it more sensitive the lower alk than other sps?

Its probably dead, but give it a few days to see if the color returns, sps can be more forgiving in captivity than in the wild as long as conditions normalize they can sometimes regain their algae, at least with partial bleaching. Still, give it a few days before you give upon the coral.

I was given a superman from a friend that was pure white and stayed pure white for weeks if not months before it colored up... I actually forgot about it and then one day he asked me about it. LOL

Good luck! My alk was much lower than yours when I first aquired this coral, so I am not so.sure Alk was the main contributing factor here.

Leave it alone. It wll probably recover if it has any tissue at all left.

It was growing onto the rock nicely and now it is completely white. It looks like the flesh is still there just white. I moved it to the bottom of the tank.
