Ok so im new to the reef tanks, had fish only tanks and this is my 1st reefer. Got a 29g BC with the stock PC lighting, media basket upgrade in which im running with poly filter floss, purigen, chemi-pure, and some cheato.

I want to ensure that I am treating with the correct suppliments. I know Calcium and Alkalinity are a must have. I was curious to know what brands, dosing amount, frequency and any additional suppliments you have found to get the best results. I plan on having soft corals and possibly SPS.

Do I need or should get Magnesium, Iron, Silicate as well? Are than any that have these combines all in one?

What works best liquids, powder, flakes?

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated -Justin

1) you need to check your attitude.
2) Google Randy farleys recipe for calcium and alk. Should be more then enough info in that article.

After frequent testing and monitoring I established a set amount of Calcium that I put in a day, I use Kents. I use visual cues as a reference when I might be lower than normal and then if I haven't done a test in a while I do one.

Magnesium is good to check too since levels can affect whether or not you have hair algae problems.

This Sticky in the SPS forum is very informative too: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1179702

Naw, but you can take your own advice though. Getting all emotional when you don't get an answer when you want it. And if you want to get real, next time try hitting search. There are more then enough threads on calc/alk/and mag. But I guess it's just me. . .GL with your tank though.

Requirements vary greatly based on tank. For the corals you talk about likely no supplementation is needed if you keep up with water changes. For SPS or clams your Ca/Alk/Mg will be used quickly. I reccomend testing frequently until you get things in check.
