View Full Version : Mechanical filtration in NC 28 with Tunze 9002 skimmer?

Hello all,
So I ripped out my media basket in the middle chamber and replaced it with a tunze 9002 skimmer. So far it's skimming really well and all, but I'm worried that my tank will have no mechanical filtration. I put a bag of chemipure elite in the 4th chamber and it's just kinda suspended there in the water.

Here's what I have in the tank: (all coral's are frags)
candy cane
zoa's
leather finger coral
green star polyp
mushrooms
frogspawn
1 clownfish
1 yellow goby
1 fire fish
1 fire shrimp

Any ideas of how I can get some mechanical filtration? My only thought is to switch out the skimmer every few days with the media basket (containing filter floss, chemipure elite, purigen).

Thanks!

Technically a skimmer is mechanical filtration, but large debris such as stray macroalgea or a shellfish molt may clog the skimmer which is why it's best to have some type of prefilter like a sock.

I avoided the Tunze because I didn't want to lose the media basket. Adding in some chemical media like chemipure, purigen, or carbon shouldnt be hard in the side constant volume chambers though.
